BrightGlare
-----------
by Charles Blaquiere
It's tough creating Really Bright Lights in Imagine because one ingredient is
missing: the subtle lens flare caused by imperfections and scratches. No matter
how bright you make a "light" object, it just won't look right unless you give
Imagine a bit of help.
BrightGlare is an Imagine object, a disc, to be placed in front of any light
source to make it appear more realistic. The disc has a filter map which looks
like the Deep Space 9 wormhole's final blink. It adds that missing twinkle to
any scene which contains a bright, visible light source.
BrightGlare has 2 colors: the main glare, and the center hotspot; these are
controlled by color RGB values in the brushmap and main object attribute
requesters, respectively. The default is a red glare with a yellow-white
hotspot, perfect for those flashing police car "emergency exit" lights.
The filter map was easily created in Imagemaster, a stupendous graphics program
with a ridiculously low price. (Currently, $70 US mail order price) I just
created rings of light using "Annular", then set the blend controls to 100%
smooth edge transparency, turned "Unsharp Mask" on to activate the blend, and
used "Asterize" to create the rays emanating from the center.
I hope you enjoy this simple, but useful object.
